Did you know?

The crowned pigeon is a very spectacular ground-dwelling pigeon of bluish colour. It has a large erectile crest. It is the largest pigeon in the world.

Threats and conservation

The crowned pigeon is threatened by hunting for its meat and prized feathers. Its natural habitat has considerably shrunk and it now survives only in remote areas of isolated forests. The Victoria crowned pigeon benefits from official protection in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
