Asiatic Lion

The Asiatic lion is smaller than its African cousin, with a less developed mane in males. Unlike the African lion, the Asian lion does not live in large tribes. Several groups of lionesses share the same territory, often defended by a few males. Males only interact with females during the breeding season or when hunting big game.

The Asiatic lion population, estimated at around 300 individuals, is protected but threatened by human activity. They are vulnerable to fire, epidemics and poisoned prey. The creation of at least one other wild population is recommended for the safety of the population. It is important to integrate the local population into the project and try to satisfy their needs without arousing hostility towards lion conservation.
