The Javan langur can have a black or orange coat, a phenomenon still unexplained by scientists. At birth, all baby Javan langurs have an orange coat, which may or may not change as they grow.
Threats and conservation
Javan langur populations are declining due to human actions (deforestation, poaching, trafficking). Led by the Aspinall Foundation in Indonesia, the main aim of the Javan langur conservation programme is to strengthen populations by reintroducing individuals into protected forests.
